We had a washpot boiling on an outdoor fire. We'd drop about ten ears of corn into the water, and as soon as it started boiling again, we'd fish them out with tongs and drop in more. The cooks delivered the corn to a nearby table where about twenty of us slathered it with butter and devoured it. The cooks kept busy for an hour. There was ham and other food on the table, but the feeding frenzy centered on the fresh sweet corn picked 50 feet away, and cooked just right. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. Hooboy!
