In my experience it produces better results than just about anything except the LightJet. The interesting thing is that they are being installed in both high-end pro labs as well as Wal-Marts, Costcos, etc. Armed with a calibrated monitor and a profile for that specific Frontier, http://www.drycreekphoto.com, you can produce equal results either place. The trick at a Wal-Mart or some other place with operators who don't have a clue is just to make sure they send the files straight to the printer with no corrections. At pro labs, this is seems to be the norm anyway. Also, at a Wal-Mart they may try to tell you that the machine only accepts Jpegs, not TIFFs. This is nonsense. Just tell them to send the files to the machine and it will work fine. At outlets with the Aladdin Kiosk, you can even avoid this needless conversation with the operators. :-).
