I'm going to go against the grain with this one.  Have you tried a 50mm lens
as a loupe.  You want quality, you want even coverage, you want cheap: a
banged up 50mm is the ticket.  Shoot, you could even find a one cam
Summicron for under $100 if it is shop worn.  When you want to see all the
detail there is in a slide, a normal lens is the ticket.
