For the doubters I put up a scan of two shots showing veiling flare. One, a third generation Summ.50/2 (11817), and the second a 1964 Soviet 50/1.5 J3 (Sonnar clone). I was running a backyard comparison check of these and this was one of the shots. Both cameras and lens' were set to the same exposure, (f8 at 1/500), and with proper shades on both. The shots were taken in open shade with a small amount of bright sky showing at the top of the viewfinder. The Summicron showed slightly more flare than the J3.  See for yourselves:
