I have a nikon coolpix 950 which makes _no_ noise when you depress the
shutter, unless you turn on the "click" sound so you know you've made an
exposure.

Though I will say I was at a concert a few months ago that the press was
invited to and during the solo you could distinctly make out the flapping
mirrors of every photojournalist in the academy of music, and I was sitting
a good 40 feet away from them. No motor drives, but mirrors. A quiet
flapping sound .... Like an oil soaked penguin flipper perhaps...
