I don't know how much of it is true but I certainly am ready to believe it more now than before due to my personal experience with this lens. They say once Bruce Lee bought a used M f2/35mm Summicron pre-asph the focus ring of which was very tight. Apparently his good instinct told him to do something similar to what you suggested - he moved the focus ring back and forth through its travel many times so as to loosen it up. It was not known whether Bruce Lee totally suceed in loosening the focus ring. But he probably sold it afterwards. Bruce later confessed to somebody that thanks to this exercise with his fingers he was able to support his own body weight with only 2 fingers. I believe the lens I acquired is the same lens. John, the ring is really tight. E.
