When I first started doing b+w I took the old advice to stick to one
film and developer. I chose HP5+ and Xtol. I used it for a few
months...and not knowing any better, figured my printing techniques were
off.

Then one day I ran a roll of Tri-x through Xtol - I was floored. Wow!
People have nice skin! Woo hoo!

Same here. D-76 looks ok...a friend of mine is trying Ilfosol-S with the
HP5+ I didn't want anymore. I've been using Tri-X, but lately
experimenting with the new D400 which seems really nice so far.
