Subject: RE: [Leica] Well, If we are all being disagreeable....

Picky, picky, picky. I haven't had really harsh flare problems with my
"Skinny." However, I am aware of the potential for flare when shooting
directly into the sun and often use the flare to my advantage as an element
of the picture. I do use the relatively deep reversible metal shade, whose
catalogue number I forget, which obviates most of the flare complaints.
Never ever use that trashy collapsible rubber hood, it's worthless. Wide
open the Skinny is a tad softer than later versions of the lens, but this is
a compromise I make willingly for so much performance in so small a package.
This is a much maligned lens with a few rabid adherents which makes it a
relative bargain for those fortunate enough to buy one.

I had a thin TE and it was a fine lens EXCEPT for its tendency to flare when
bright tones <not light sources, tones!!< were in the frame (a little soft
wide open and focused close too). I sold it and bought a 90/2.8 Elmarit-M.
Now this lens is a stunning performer with no flare problems. It is larger
than the TE but hardly large compared to an SLR equivalent.
