I have an SL to supplement my R8, and in many ways this is the most enjoyable camera I have. And I paid all of $400 for it, including a 50mm Summicron. I am using the SL as backup to the R8, and also to teach my 10-year son photography. It is perfect for the latter purpose, with its simplicity and ruggedness. When you get it, make sure to shoot a roll of slow slide film (Velvia, Provia 100) under controlled conditions--meaning tripod etc. My procedure for testing newly acquired stuff is to set up the camera on tripod and photograph a statue. That way you have eliminated two sources of problems, camera shake and subject movement. Run through all the speeds and apertures and take good notes. Then study the slides on a light table with a good loupe.
