I think the O-ring solution is a great answer!

How did you get the tab? 
I emailed Leica in NJ and asked for the tab as a part that they could fit 
and they said no such thing - can't be done.

As far as the attachment I suggest you go to the auto parts store and 
look for some black silicone gasket sealer then (assuming you have a good 
fit of the parts) you can use that to glue the tab on. It should be 
easily undone. Then if you like it and want it to be permanent use epoxy.

Does this tab really fit the contour of the  new 50? 
I want one! Do you have a part number?
