There are three different "body" types: 1st- front optical unit smaller in diameter than focusing mount, focus ring is scalloped (alternating fine knurling and smooth), optical unit removable, separate hood, filter size E39 2nd- focus ring is all fine knurling, rest same as first 3rd- even cylindrical form, hood built-in, optical unit not removable, filter size E46 See eBay for pictures.
