Mike, what is the serial number of your camera?  Does your camera have flush 
or recessed windows?  If the windows are recessed, you have a brass top plate 
on your camera.  What you're seeing is probably the nickel flash coat under 
the black chome   surface finish.  Cast zinc M4-P top plates all have flush 
windows, like the M6.
Brass top plates can be painted black, but first all the plating has to be 
removed down to bare brass.  Otherwise, the camera will not "brass" properly. 
 Cast zinc can be painted as well, but this will certainly not "brass".  The 
finish of the top plate must be perfectly smooth, blemish and dust free.  
Gloss black paint magnifies every defect in the paint surface.  
These were some of the problems to be overcome in the production of the LHSA 
black paint camera.  Sounds fun, doesn' it?
