Eric,
I agree with you with the proviso that you add, but would share Ted's 
earlier thoughts to the guy ignoring an earlier 35/1.4 lens.
'Sharpness' and 'being in focus' are less important than a good picture, 
with strong content. Look at any early H C-B work, UNLESS you need / want 
it to be in focus.
