Subject: Re: [Leica] SL vs SL2 for long lenses

Both the SL and SL-2 have very bright screens with fine microprism over the
entire screen area, allowing focussing to be done over the entire screen
area. The SL has a coarse microprism center spot that is very good for
seeing the image "pop" into focus with long lenses. The SL-2 center spot has
a split-image wedge, one half of which can go dark at apertures smaller than
f5.6, making focusing with the split mage difficult. I prefer the SL-type
screen for use with my 400 and 560 f6.8 lenses, which are focused at the
working aperture. The SL-type screen gives more precise focusing when you
have time to use the center spot. In sports photography with rapid moving
action, I have no strong preference since I am usually using the general
screen area to focus.
