The 180 shots have a slightly different look to them, which may be because they were shot with the R6 on manual and the exposure may be different. I was also shooting the 280 about a stop closed and the 180 may have been open a stop more, showing different depth of field as noted by Dan. I still get the gut feeling that the 180 images have more of a snap to them. Very well put about the 2x. As my dad taught me, if you don't have at least two answers to a problems, you have not thought about it enough. I do however use the 2x a lot with the 400 when shooting birds. It gives me a decent 800mm 5.6. I shot another soccer game today and tried it with just the 180 + 2x. I will see how those shots turn out. In retrospect though, I think the 180 sans converter plus the 280 plus 1.4x, both on bodies make a good combination. I did it this way for some of the girls soccer game, with the 280 and R8 on a monopod and the 180 and R6 hanging from my shoulder. When the action got too close for the 280, I would pick up the 180 and shoot with it. I have been using the R8 lately for sports and am very impressed with its overall functionality. The shutter release must be the best on all the R cameras, as it is very predictable and fires without too much throw. It is also seems quieter and has less vibration than the other leica R's. It also seems much smoother than the EOS 1n that I used last week. Once the R8 six frames per second motor arrives, my winder will be delegated to the shelf. The R8 will be an awesome camera when it gets the motor. Too bad they didn't introduce the motor with the camera. You would have far fewer bitching about the R8 and more just using it.
