It was not consistent in quality. The second version that reads ASPH. on the lens makes better images and has very consistent quality. I believe the quality difference was because the older one had the aspherical lenses ground in a more traditional way, while the newer asph lenses are using some sort of new tecnology where they are moulded and maybe grould a bit as well,which makes more consistent results.
