If things get snarled dealing with the people on the phone at Leica USA, I
would send a simple note to Roger Horn, Leica USA president. My last
correspondence with him yielded a friendly and helpful response. This is
all predicated on the dealer in Amsterdam having been an authorized Leica
outlet. One can't blame the company for not doing free repair work on
lenses that have been moving in unknown channels: who knows what they've
been through.
