Relative to your noise level comments ( sorry; going from memory
in that my "save" garbled your comments); I can't speak to any 
personal comparisons. However, per the "Popular Photography"
review; several quotes: 1.) "Noise levels: both average & peak
were lower than average for a manual focus SLR".  2.) "R8
performed extremely well.......we were particularly impressed
with.......and its extremely quiet operation".

I.E., take the winder off & you have a very quiet SLR; another 
option given by the Solms gnomes ;-)!
