For another anti-tripod experience, try birding with a tripod-mounted
APO-Televid next to the chain link fence near the end of a runway at
a commercial airport. Last summer the Conn. Airport police firmly
but politely ejected me and a companion from the fence while we were
scanning the grass for a rare sparrow nesting in that area. The
explanation offered: "They get hinky about people next to the
fence."
In a way, the encounter was a bit of fun. I haven't been regarded as
suspect by the authorities since crossing the border from Turkey
to Greece in my bearded salad days during the Age of Aquarius.
