The new ASPH lenses are going to be quite a bit better than the 35 Summicron R. In tests that I've seen, the 35 Summicron R is behind not only the 35 Summilux R, but also the Canon 35 f/2, and the Contax 35mm 1.4 and the non ASPH Summicron M. That being said, the 35mm Summicron R is supposed to have very high resistance to flare, which is an important characteristic. And it's quite a bit less expensive than the Summilux, and it does focus closer. But my choice on the R cameras would be the Summilux anyway. It's amazing. I've recently chosen the M Summilux ASPH because I want the focusing accuracy of the M6 and the size and weight difference is significant as I move into middle age. :-) I just got a job promotion, to photo editor, so I'm selling all my Nikons now and buying a Leica R8. I'm no longer going digital this year, since our night photographer has to be the first one to go digital. (Sports and deadlines for a morning paper). And I won't be shooting a lot of sports, so I don't need AF any more. I'm putting my money where my mouth is, and going back to Leica R for my longer lenses. ========== Eric Welch St. Joseph, MO http://www.ponyexpress.net/~ewelch You'll get what's coming to you ...
