15mm R and 180/3.4

Hi Jim, 

The two relevant reasons why I bought the 180 2.8 even though I had the 3.4
were the closer focusing ability and use of the 1.4 extender.

There were too many times when I missed the tight shot I wanted due to the
3.4's inability to focus close and fill the frame. Sure if there was room
to back-up obviously one did, but there were times I literally had my back
up against the wall and trying to push myself into a few MM's thinner for
the critical focus point. 

When I read an article about the 2.8 specs, it's closer focusing point and
able to attach the 1.4 extender I immediately bought the 2.8. And I only
sold them both off when I bought the Apo 70-180 2.8. And damn wouldn't you
know, I have cursed selling that 180 2.8 a dozen times since, even though
I'd be dead without the 70-180.

The reason for that is simply, sometimes the convenience of the "lighter
weight 180 2.8 lens"  for handling in difficult situations. So if I come
across a reasonable priced one some day I'll pick it up.

And another thanks for Marc's comments on the 15mm 3.5. It truly is a very
special magic lens once you learn how to make it work for you.:) And then
look out world! :)
