   The whirring noise is the resetting of the slow speeds
   escapement. Upon its cycle, slowing down the closing curtain, it
   needs to reset for the next release.  The reason for the sound is
   there is no pallet engagement to give actual resistance.

Does this also explain the R6/R6.2 whirring noise after the shutter has
closed?
