Although the comment came as a remark and not a question, I feel compelled to
note that "distortion" is being confused with exaggerated perspective from
being too close to the subject.  The 50mm does not have less "distortion"
than the 35mm when trying to do portraits. Perspective is just a little more
normal when you are a few more feet away from the subject than you are likely
to be with a wide angle lens. The lens is not distorting.  Lens distortion is
an entirely different issue. People (and everything else) look strange and
different when you put a lens closer than 3-4 feet away.  And wide angle
lenses let you get very very close, thereby "distorting" things all the more.
