The sensors were made by third party (possibly to Leica specs) and the S AF motor failure is probably very embarrassing to them, all too common :-( 

I have tried other systems (D800E and X-T1) and neither liked them in use nor their results...

All of which makes me wonder about the economic model of the firm - charging premium prices for unreliable gear that you then repair for free makes little sense to me.
It gets even worse for the user who suffers long delays and has to pay for it all. 
I understand Frank's rant as a result.
