I am an amateur and get treated as such.....It is a different standard. ( Pro green is better than amateur green. That is the message I receive.) The M lenses, unless you drop them, or do something else ridiculous with them, will last a lifetime with minimal repair assistance. I have a 1930 model 90 Elmar (pre 100,000 serial number)that still is in pretty perfect working condition as an example. The bodies may be great but it is the repairs that I am really griped about.... And I do love Leica glass... really. My M9 is now working fine, my Monochrom is now working fine. I need no other Leica bodies. ( somewhat thanks to Sony and Techart) ( to say nothing of the fact that I can not afford the $4-5-6000 lenses of the SL or S series) If the SL had an auto iris R adapter, I would have jumped right in, bought some affordable, used, R glass, and been a happy camper ( or so I think). But it didn?t and doesn't and will not. No SL in my future. No more Leica bodies in my stable. It would not zoom at all. I sent a panicked e-mail to Leica and they responded immediately. They had had two lens that had that problem. The guy that worked on them talked me through how to tug on the lens hood to get the zoom to unstick. It worked and I did that for the rest of the trip. When I got back home, the lens went to Leica NJ where they fixed it permanently and shipped it back to me in less than a week. It hasn't jammed since then.
