So far, this thread is reporting that cosmetic and mechanical things on the DMR are still being fixed by Leica in Germany, but if it's electronics, we're SOL. At present, that leaves me with two options: 1) Try to get the DMR fixed through a channel in the UK that Charlie Chan knows, or 2) Buy up several more DMR's to keep at least my three running for as long as I can. I agree with Frank that I'm simply delaying the inevitable, and that's my conscious decision at the moment. I'll be curious on your repair experience with your DMR and Leica Germany. Jim James R. Leica are fixing and cleaning mine for 'free', but the catch is they give not warranty (which is fair I think). They were keen to fix it if they could, and I don't imagine it really suits them to have to turn away so many electronic problems, but that's the modern world. My R9 was (like your R8) not so 'lucky' and will cost a bit to repair, but like you its being done. The 12 month warranty is better than any we get here on repaired gear of any sort --read washing machines etc, so I'm not unhappy there either. It will be a pleasure to use them again.
