In fact I am probably going to Kerala later this year to document a similar project for an indigenous and ancient dance form called Kathakali - the whole make up takes 8-10 hours to apply, and all parts are danced only by males. As the dance is considered a religious ritual in its pristine form, getting permission to do so is very difficult, but it looks as it might come through from a troupe that sticks to its traditions, i.e. does not perform truncated, jazzed up versions for tourists.
