Subject: [Leica] Drobo for backup

A few weeks ago I asked about backup solution.

As luck would have it, someone was selling a Drobo with 4x 2TB drives (for
about 5+ TB usable space) for a very good price. Drobo uses their own
"beyond-RAID" system such that you can upgrade anytime by replacing a
drive, without having to copy the files out or anything. This system would
be good for up to 4x4TB or 16TB.

Since nobody would use more than 640KB, this should be plenty enough.

My system is now happily backing up the files there. You can use USB or
Firewire 800. The newer systems have other connector options.

(yes, this does not solve off site back up issues, but that's a different
problem to solve)
