Basically, you need to borrow a config line and may be a DLL from vuescan. Pay $79 for Vuescan and you get updates for free, "forever." Canon may have latest driver, but then again, Vuescan will handle that too. SSD for OS will certainly help, but not sure when you are working on images. If you can afford it though, go for it.
