I have spent a good part of the evening searching for the best, most reliable, replacement. I've learned a lot about problems, but little about solutions. As I said, I'm still working the problem. Most direct replacements currently on the market are refurbs, and many of them are shown as "out of stock". Some SATA II drives have a jumper that will allow them to be used with some SATA 1 controllers, but the clarifying info is hard to find.
