Wrong approach.... The drive had a fault. If you wait long enough, it will
totally fail.
Buy a new HDD, do a cloning ( while it still functions), and toss the old
drive in the garbage. Now.
Think of the first mild problem as a warning.

Thanks, Warren. Insofar as I can tell, the HD is working normally. I'm
still checking things.
