Frank, that's easy one to answer. You're from California right?

It's very simple really - it is possible for the voting public to vote for
candidates or legislation that turn out not the best for them. Sometimes
populist messages work really work, and some times we are misled.

In the pre-web but email day, the following will terminate the discussion:
Germany 1930s.

But since we are past that, lets continue with an even more relevant example
for us Californians:

Grey Davis in 2000. We voted for him.

Then we voted him out!! "Power to the People." We recalled an all of the
sudden, incompetent governor, even though he was quite competent just a few
months prior.

Then we (I am using "we" very loosely here - this would be a "we" that does
not include "I") voted for Arnie, twice.

So what did we end up? Remember one of the "bad things" that Davis did was
to raise the vehicle fee, OMG, for more than $30 or something little thing
like that? and Arnie of course repealed it? That was one of the BIG issues?

Yea, we need that raise, and A LOT more, now, to fix our budget.

Democracy works best if the candidates are honest and the voters are
intelligent. Often, we have neither :-(
