For someone used to darkroom work, it is very easy to use. You don't even have to read a manual. I'm not even sure there is one. I've been using it for 8 years now. There are many reasons I do so. One reason is that I have always used the same software, Vuescan, no matter what scanner I have. I use it for 35mm (Nikon) and medium-format (Epson). Same software. I just change more source from one scanner to another. I'm not a bad scanner. In fact, I'm rather pedantic about the whole process. I've yet to see anything that meets my requirements besides Vuescan. You can probably make up for other software's weaknesses by judicious application of Photoshop. Photoshop, on the other hand, is one thing I've never had to learn much about. Vuescan gives me scans that are pretty close to being perfect. A little levels, clone out some dust and I'm done. That's about all I can do in Photoshop. The key, no matter what software you use, is to keep your eye on that histogram. It's the alpha and omega of getting things right.
