I know that you have long been an advocate of going 'commando' with your lenses ;-) Other folks have different views. I wasn't expressing my view this time around, only saying that everyone will decide for themselves with no need for everyone to agree. I don't think that anyone will change anyone else's view, do you? As we both said, the equation has changed now with the UV/IR and the M8. It's great that people have passionate views on all sorts of aspects of photography. I certainly have a lot of those too ;-) Cheers Geoff http://www.pbase.com/hoppyman/e http://gallery.leica-users.org/v/gh/ -----Original Message----- Subject: Re: [Leica] Ah! Back to the Great Filter Dispute! The simple answer is that you don't need filters except to change the light artistically, and of course the ir cut filters. That is modern Leica lenses, from forty years ago or so. Not just my stance, Leica people in Solms mocked me for using an IR on my 28 Elmarit. If you are fearful of protecting your front element, then perhaps you've found yourself in too severe a locale for your own breathing or vision safety? -- Regards, Sonny http://www.sonc.com Natchitoches, Louisiana USA On Thu, Jun 26, 2008 at 8:51 AM, Geoff Hopkinson <hoppyman@bigpond.net.au> wrote: > I hear you Marc.
