Gads. Linear B is simply early Classical Greek. Rather easy to read once the spelling conventions (the script is a syllabary, after all) are understood. The content, though, is as dull as a discussion of Leica R zoom lenses -- inventory lists! Hittite is a greater problem, and it is "evolving doctrine" at the moment. The literature is significant and can be read, but the meaning is often elusive, as the Hittites, though Indo-Europeans, had lived in Anatolia long enough to have picked up a lot of Middle Eastern culture, so words can have slippery meanings. Still, the Hittite references to the Mycenaeans seem clear enough, and that provides us a fascinating check on our understandings of the failure of early Greek cultures.
