The hogueras are very impressive and very well finished if they are only made of wood and papier-m?ch?. How do they get them so photogenically smooth and shiny? I suppose it?s just an intergenerational skill that I may have missed out on.. We have a festival fire tradition over here too at this time in parts of rural Ireland also associated with St. John, but it?s much older than Christianity. We also had on in May called Bealtine which means the fires of Baal. However, it?s fuelled by pieces of wood as opposed to anything as sculptural as hogueras. The burning must be spectacular.
