Dear Alice,

Thank you for the touching follow-up to the shocking news about Philippe.
I?m happy to read of the role that we members of the LUG played in his
enjoyment of photography and life. I regret never having met him, but I do
love France and the countryside, and many of his photos took me there and
made me eager to return.

Philippe?s personality on the LUG was warm, witty, and wise, always cheerful
and wry, never self-important. You could practically see the twinkle in his
eye you read his comments. He came across as a true gentleman as well as an
accomplished photographer and chronicler of his world. We will miss him
terribly, especially those of us who had had the pleasure and privilege of
his companionship, but even those, like me, who had not.

My deepest sympathies to you and your family. May his memory be a blessing.

Amiti?s,
Howard Ritter
