At about 11:00 last night the phone rang and it was our neighbor.? She
told us we were on a level 2 alert to be ready to evacuate.? That was
news to us.? We smelled no smoke but it was very windy.? Looking it up,
the Burbank fire had shut down the highway from Yakima north to
Ellensburg and was moving fast to the east.? We got a few things ready
to go, but looking at the wind direction I felt comfortable to go to
bed.? At about 3AM the smoke was thick, but still no fire to see.? The
fire never crested the Yakima ridge behind us and did go just to the
east where there is mostly open land and the Army base, the Firing
Center.? Maybe later I will drive to the top of the ridge and see if I
can see anything.
