Actually, the temps in southern, sea-level Iceland rarely get below the 
mid-teens F/-10?C in the winter (or above the low 60s F/mid-teens C in 
summer), and at any time of year the difference between daily high and low 
is usually very narrow, between 5-10?F, or 3-6?C, half what it is where most 
of us live. It?s quite remarkable. There?s usually not even much snow. Now, 
in the north and in the mountains, it?s different, enough to form glaciers 
(which mankind is now melting).

You?re right about dressing properly. The cool temps, moist air, and wind 
are bone-chilling. We had winds I?d guess of 15-25 mph with gusts well over 
30 while standing on the cliffs on the coast, strongest winds I can recall 
experiencing in the absence of a storm.
