Ted -

Bokeh is the out of focus area of the photograph.  Depending on the lens,
the bokeh can be very good or awful.  Leica lenses usually have great
bokeh.  Some mirror lenses give annoying circles in the bokeh which take
your attention away from what should be the focus of the photo.  Some bokeh
is swirly looking and makes me dizzy!!

It's always been there, you've just never called it bokeh before!!
