All the track repairs in Atlanta are transitioning to concrete ties. I haven't visited any yards around Austin yet so don't know if that was a Southern rail thing or just a safety speed improvement on main lines: Atlanta started as Terminus where the lines on either side of the Appalachian mountains could meet.
