Tina... I don't use the cloud function..... if that is what you mean....
Thanks to you, I did find a capability within LR to find a "list" of all the
missing images... that was handy.....

Have you tried syncing the folder that the files are supposed to be in?  LR
has never lost any of my files but I have forgotten to update sometimes and
"lost" them myself.
