Sad story.
After they left this resting area they headed about 2 miles further up the
highway. A few cars were following. One cow was really slow so we were
well back of the main herd when the left the road for the pasture by the
river. From the distance I saw one cow venture down a side road to the
river followed by two cowboys. My next view, the cow was knee deep. I
guess even though it was not hot out, the cows get hot on their jaunt down
the road as they are not use to such a long walk. The next view saw the cow
way out in deep water and the cowboys were getting concerned. Then the
swift water caught her and she was swept down stream. A bunch of cowboys
and girls made a mad dash up the road past us. We could not see the cow now
as the cliff was about 100 feet above the river where we were. One of the
brave cowgirls took her horse over the ledge and headed down. The traffic
started to move, so we had to move, too, but someone in camera club was
behind us and was able to pull over in a wide spot and watch as they tried
to rope her. Then he had to move, but we learned later that they lost the
cow and calf. It was just too much for her. Sad outcome.
