Possibly, but never done that with the older digital rangefinders....

Strictly a WAG but perhaps Leica has part in excess of supply and is willing 
to part with them at a lower price?  Especially if a new higher resolution 
version is in the works; old digital doesn't have a great shelf life so 
needs to be disposed of quickly.
