I have to add a rider to this:

I went back to Ilford and complained. They apologised profusely and say that
they had the TIFFs still available but had written to CD as JPEGs in a
variety
of resolutions, because that is their standard practice apparently.

They then downloaded the TIFFs to me directly. I have to say that the
standard
is very high and the resolution vastly increased, the tonality shows much
greater depth and the noise correction that they apply has worked
wonderfully.
FWIW the TIFFs are 13.5 Mb on disk, 4500 x 3000 pixels greyscale.

Originally they only sent me back the results from one film, but a gentle
push
and the other was downloaded from the archive too.

So: A bit of a you-know-what, but put right in the end. Glad that I
complained.

Outcome: Ilford are very much back in the frame. Just be careful to check
what
they do.
