Ted,

You?re living in the past. Wedding vows don?t mean a damned thing. In the
USA, 50% of marriages end in divorce within the first 5 years. Because the
couple were stupid enough to invite the government into their
relationship, they have to pay lawyers and court fees for ?permission? to
split up.

We have ?no fault? divorce now, the courts NEVER deny a couple permission
to divorce anymore, so I see no reason to involve them. In the past, you
could only divorce for a good reason, and those reasons were codified in
the law. Domestic violence, adultery, alcohol or drug addiction, and
abandonment were pretty much the only valid reasons judges would grant a
divorce. Not anymore; one of the people just has to be ?bored? or wants
someone else, etc.
