AFAIR nobody expected the M9 until announced on 09/09/09?

I did not pay anything near that. At the time (late 2008), Leica had just
launched the M9 or was about to launch it, I don't remember, but in any
event there were good prices and cash rebates in the UK, so I ended up
paying 2150 GBP with 2-year Passport (one of the advantages of buying in the
UK), which at that time was about 2400 EUR. So yes, slightly above my 2000
limit, but then again, it was a new camera with the best warranty protection
available in the market (and yes, I did have the opportunity to use the
Passport).

Cheers,
Nathan
