I can't be 100% sure what I'm seeing in my results.  I use a sharp mountain
ridge with very clear air to see how lenses behave.  What I found with the
sample 35 FE I have that AF at f/2.8 produced excellent results at f/2.8.
 But when I used the AF at f/2.8 and then stopped down, the results were
inferior to using magnified manual focus at working aperture.  In manual,
relatively close (6 meter) focusing, the scale (which does not show up in
AF mode) fairly consistently showed a different distance for f/2.8 than
f/8.  So, I interpreted this as probably a focus shift issue
