I can't explain all the hype but for myself as a non-owner and having
handled a couple of LUGger's A7x cameras what appeals to me:

full-frame
can use a huge variety of SLR lenses
can use ALL Leica-R lenses without mount change
24 or 36 MP
TTL viewing
live histogram in the viewfinder
viewfinder built-in, not an add-on
reasonably responsive viewfinder
for the A7, electronic first curtain option
small & light weight (a little weight savings is better than none)

The small number of native-mount lenses doesn't bother me because the only
advantage they'd offer is AF, which won't interest me until something like
the A6000's system is built into a full-frame camera.
