To those of you who wondered, longtime Co. Wicklow resident, John Boorman
directed the film Excalibur about the legend of King Arthur and shot the
film with Bray and Co. Wicklow posing as Camelot and England. It also did
the same pose for Scotland in Braveheart. Boorman used a number of Irish
actors in the film and one of them was Abbey theatre actor Niall O'Brien who
played Arthur's stepbrother Sir Kay.

O'Brien died a few years ago and his wife Brigid changed the gate on their
house in Bray to this design. On the film, I went on set in Ardmore Studios
after it was finished and took some snaps of Camelot - the fake silver small
scaled castle with the gold drawbridge chains (papier mache) - that featured
in it, but can't find them anywhere.

Well done to Jay on getting the answer right. And I will buy him that pint
in the UK if I can make it over - depends on my wife's condition.

Douglas
